Wind has the potential make dramatic changes in our life. The use of wind energy in the last 25 years has gone from practically nothing, to over 11500 megawatts in 2006. The generation of power by utilizing the wind has a bright future with wind farms being constructed all over the world. 36 states in the US now have at least one wind farm. Some worry though, that there will be an adverse affect on birds & bats, which are sometimes killed when trying to navigate their way through or around the giant blades used to capture the wind’s energy, thus turning the turbines that create the power. I think at some point you have to ask yourself, (and pardon me if this seems cruel), but would you rather have some dead birds and bats or would you rather have air conditioning and lights? Will birds adapt and learn to avoid the wind farms? It’s interesting stuff to be sure. I think that the use of wind energy will only increase over the next few years. I don’t see anything stopping it. This is just one of the aspects learning to live in this new and ever changing world |
